My Letter to the Editor printed today. One of my better efforts.

In defense of Bowen


I received Paul Johnson’s flier in the mail today urging me to re-elect him as district attorney.


I am astounded at the hypocrisy of the statements against Brent [Bowen], but apparently Johnson’s hypocrisy knows no bounds. He attacks Brent, saying that Brent defended those accused of crimes.


Let me remind you, the voters — and you, Paul Johnson — that Johnson fired 25 career prosecutors (including me) and replaced them with a plethora of defense attorneys, namely Tom Whitlock, Hardy Burke, Jamie Beck, Cary Piel and Susan Piel.

People of Denton County, in case you didn’t know it, your district attorney has always been in the pocket of the local defense bar. That is why your crime rates have risen. If Johnson is pointing a finger at Brent for being a defense attorney, he should point at his own staff first.
