(I normally don't like to put up jokes about President Bush, but I have not been very happy with him, lately.
1. He keeps wanting to give out tax dollar away as charitable contributions. This is wrong whether it is a foreign charity or a domestic one.
2. While he is pushing to open up offshore drilling, China is drilling nearer to our coast than domestic companies are allowed to, and from what I can tell, the oil companies are sitting on about 86 million acres of leases that they are intentionally not drilling or producing.
...and that is just a small part of it.)
So, here it is with thanks to one of my loyal readers and emailers:
If Democrat or Republican, I think you'll get a kick out of this!
A little boy goes to his dad and asks, "What is Politics?"
Dad says, "Well son, let me try to explain it this way: I am the head of the family , so call me The President. Your mother is the administrator of the money, so we call her the Government. We are here to take care of your needs, so we will call you the People. The nanny, we will consider her the Working Class. And your baby brother, we will call him the Future& nbsp (I don't understand the "nbsp", maybe someone can explain that to me); Now think about that and see if it makes sense."
So the little boy Goes off to bed thinking about what Dad has said.
Later that night, he hears his baby brother crying, so he gets up to check on him. He finds that the baby has severely soiled his diaper. So the little boy goes to his parent's room and finds his mother asleep. Not wanting to wake her, he goes to the nanny's room Finding the door locked, he peeks in the keyhole and sees his father in bed with the nanny. He gives up and goes back to bed.
The next morning, the little boy say's to his father, "Dad, I think I understand the concept of politics now." The father says, "Good, son, tell me in your own words what you think politics is all about."
The little boy replies, "The President is screwing the Working Class while the Government is sound asleep. The People are being ignored and the Future is in deep doo-doo."

It is not true that China is drilling off of our coast. Several people repeated it from one false source.

Kevin:
If there is an oil shortage, why are there tankers of oil sitting offshore just waiting?

The is part of the .html tagging for a blank space in the web page that got copied and pasted by accident. Anyway, that's my guess.

I don't know if it's true or not because I haven't been out there to see it. I do know that I have read it from several conservative columnists. The liberal columnists don't refute that; they merely poin out that the domestic oil companies are sitting on millions of acres of leases that they are not producing. As for the oil tankers waiting to unload, that raises another issue. The EPA and other militant environmental groups have fought tooth and nail against every proposed new refinerty. After all, who wants to live near an oil refinery? So our current refining facilities are operating at their limits to refine what they do have. The ultimate answer is to take down the oil men and get them out of their powerful positions so they will quit using their formidable resources to battle alternative means of producing energy for homes and transportation. We also have to muzzle the environmental groups who battle to stop the creation of nuclear power for producing electricity for our homes and businesses. There is always someone battling the new forms of energy. I am personally aware of a group that is suing the owner of some property in Jack County because he has it set up as a wind farm. He as rows and columns of giant windmills to produce electricity. A good alternative, but now the owner and the investors have to waste money defending a ridiculous law suit by retired old men with nothing better to do.
Dependency on oil can continue if the suppliers would stop intentionally strangling the supply to drive up the price. We have offshore reserves. We have reserves in Alaska. We have reserves in the United States. Why is the federal government in Saudi Arabia begging them to increase production?
