Detroit's salvation?...and I don't mean the government

This is what will save the U.S. automotive industry.
I read an article about this car in the Denton paper back before Thanksgiving.
Supposedly, it is designed to go 40 miles on an initial charge of the batteries.
It also contains a gasoline motor that is there solely for the purpose of charging the batteries while you drive. The motor is a generator that cyles on and off as the vehicle needs power to the silent electic drive motor.
The article said that Volt can travel at highway speeds, and with the generator cycling to charge the batteries, it can get over 100 miles per gallon of gasoline traveling up to 640 miles without a stop at a gas station.
It is due to be released in 2010 by Chevrolet.
If they do, I will be there to buy one.
