Revised Letter to the Editor

I had to revise the earlier letter to the Denton Record-Chronicle. Apparently, there is a 250 word limit. Below is the version that I sent today:

Regarding Cynthia White's latest campaign mailing: she is deceiving the voters. She seeks to capitalize on the fact that Hugh Coleman was “terminated by the new DA.” The ad is deceptive for implying that Hugh Coleman deserved to lose his job.
The firing of 25 employees by Paul Johnson was a purely political. I was one of those fired for no good reason. Hugh Coleman, also, is a very fine attorney. To imply anything else is wrong. For Cynthia White to use this to forward her own campaign is unfair on the most basic level.
I was shocked at the implication. The ad insults 24 other former employees of the Denton County D.A.'s Office victimized by Johnson’s capriciousness. I took the ad as a slap in the face by my County Commissioner. If I ever considered voting for her, I will not now. None of us or our families deserved what happened to us.
The fact that the White campaign seeks to benefit from our misfortune is reprehensible. Hugh Coleman is a fine and honorable man, a good attorney, and would be a good county commissioner.

Need Input on Letter to the Editor

I haven't seen any comments on my letter to the newspaper. I would like to send it in tomorrow. What do you think? Too strong? Not strong enough? Too emotional? I am looking for some input.

The letter is earlier in the blog (See entry below).

Mostly, I want to see Cynthia White defeated!

Obama should learn some American History

In listening to B. Hussein Obama talk during his campaign for the Presidency, I see his rhetoric boiled down to the following:
1. Abandon the battle for Iraq and Afghanistan.
2. Absorb the illegal aliens (i.e.-open the borders).
3. Engage the Islamic terrorists in diplomatic negotiation.

In other words, stop fighting the terrorists, do nothing to stop terrorists from entering the country at will, and ultimately engage in the politics of appeasement to supposedly get the terrorists to leave the U.S. alone.

Ladies and gentlemen, I show you today's version of Nelville Chamberlain. How many of you do not know who that was?

Nelville Chamberlain was the Prime Minister of England in the 1930's who did nothing to stop the onslaught of Germany under Adolf Hitler. The saddest part of all of that is that the English people supported him until Hitler was on England's doorstep.

"When Nelville Chamberlain returned from Munich in 1938 with an appeasement deal with Hitler, the English people were delirious with joy. It took integrity for Winston Churchill to tell the House of Parliament that they had suffered a total and unmitigated deception. He was thunderously booed." The Public Manager, p. 46, Spring 2005.

Chamberlain negotiated away part of Czechoslovakia and the Rhineland under Hitler's represetations that this was all he wanted. What he actually wanted was more time to get his war machine to full force. The British did not wake up until it was almost too late. Hitler's forces had overrun Poland, Belgium, France, and were taking Russia. England was next, but Churchill was able to take charge as the Prime Minister and inspire the Brits to fight back.

What will Obama negotiate away to appease the terrorists?
Will he hand Iraq back to the murderous Islamic extremists?
Will he abandon Afghanistan?
Will he abandon Israel?

Obama does not have the integrity or the guts to fight for our freedom. Does he think liberty happens by itself?

If our forefathers were as yellow as the Democrats, we would still be British subjects suffering the tyranny of English rule. We would not have a President; we would have a territorial or provisional governor controlled by the crown.

History teachers nowadays want to talk about the abomination of Vietnam. They seem to avoid World War II. That was the war of American victory, American power, and American heroism. That was the time when evil despots sought to destroy the United States and the West at all costs, but America turned back her enemies and established our place as the greatest, most powerful nation in the world.

Too many of our own citizens are willing to abdicate that place in the world that we have earned on the blood, sweat, tears, and lives of those before us.

Give me liberty or give me death!

Proposed Letter to the Editor of the Record-Chronicle

LETTER TO THE EDITOR:
I received Cynthia White's latest campaign mailing. I was appalled at the liberty she takes with the facts. I refer to the point that Hugh lost his job when the D.A. changed after the election.
The firing of 25 employees by Paul Johnson was a purely arbitrary political firing and nothing more. I was one of those twenty-five employees that Paul Johnson fired when he took office. I loved my job, I was good at my job, and I enjoyed serving Denton County every minute I was there.
Hugh Coleman was the same way: a smart attorney who worked hard. Among other things, he protected the citizens of Denton County by successfully defending the county against lawsuits. He was good at his job.
To see the firing of Hugh, me, or any of the others as anything other than political retaliation by Paul Johnson is wrong. For Cynthia White to use this fact to forward her own campaign is unfair on the most basic level.
The fact that Cynthia White seeks to injure Hugh by pointing out that he lost his job after the election of 2006 shows how far she will go to win the election. The ad deceives the voters by insinuating that Hugh deserved to lose his job. I assure you, he did not.
Not only does she seek to harm Hugh with the fact that he lost his job through no fault of his own, she insults 24 other former employees of the Denton County D.A.'s Office who fell victim to the politician’s axe. I took the ad as a slap in the face by my County Commissioner. She apparently believes that my family and I deserved what happened to us. I guess she believes that Hugh and his family deserved to be treated that way, too.
The fact that Commissioner White seeks to benefit from our misfortune is reprehensible. Hugh Coleman is a good man, a good attorney, and would be a good county commissioner.

Note how Cynthia White sees no problem with taking contributions from developers, contractors, and consultants.

Unethical, Misleading Campaign Literature from Cynthia White

I received Cynthia White's latest campaign mailing today.

I can't believe she has stooped to this level in her campaign.
She states that the fact that Paul Johnson fired Hugh Coleman, along 24 other human beings, when he took office should be considered as a reason not to vote for Hugh.
Hugh Coleman is trying to unseat Cynthia White from the Denton County Commissoiners' Court.

The firing of 25 employees by Paul Johnson ranks as one of larger injustices I have ever seen or experienced in my lifetime. It was a completely arbitrary and capricious act by the District Attorney. I would call it mean spirited and totally unreasonable. I never did anything in my work to merit such treatment. I never did anything personally to Paul Johnson that called for such mistreatment by him.

I was one of the twenty-five employees that Paul Johnson fired when he took office. Most of those people were fine, dedicated public servants who performed their duties with intelligence and passion.
I was a very good employee with nothing but excellent evaluations on the way I did my job. God was looking out for me because I was able to continue as a criminal prosecutor with the Wise County District Attorney's Office.

Hugh Coleman was the same way. An excellent attorney who did his best at his job all the time. He received excellent evaluations and maintained an excellent relationship with the Sheriff's Office, including time with Benny Parkey, the current Sheriff.

To see the firing or Hugh, me, or any of the others as anything besides paltroonish political retaliation by Paul Johnson is wrong and unfair. The fact that Cynthia White seeks to injure Hugh by pointing out that he lost his job after the election of 2006 shows how unscrupulous she is. The ad is totally misleading by insinuating that any of us needed to be terminated or deserved to be fired.

You are already aware of the fact that Cynthia White accepts campaign money from contractors and consultants who stand to gain by received contracts with Denton County. She has admitted it in the newspaper, and she sees nothing wrong with that. Apparently, she also sees nothing wrong with misleading the voters about her opponent.

This mailing with this information was purely an act of desperation on the part of Cynthia White. I, as a precinct 1 voter, have had enough of her nonsense and wasteful government.

VOTE FOR HUGH COLEMAN FOR COUNTY COMMISSIONER IN DENTON COUNTY.

Vote for Hugh Coleman for County Commissioner, Precinct 1

This is Denton County Commissioner, Cynthia White.
I live in the precinct that she represents in Denton County.
I will vote in the election this year.
I will not vote for her.

I received a new mailing from her opponent, Hugh Coleman. I believe the information that Hugh has included regarding Commissioner White's administration. She takes campaign money from persons who bid on contracts for goods or services with Denton County. In other words, when she votes to give tax money to a consultant or supplier, chances are she will select the person who has contributed a large amount of money to her campaign.
In effect, Denton County taxpayers are paying more than they should to get the work of the government done because she allows consultants and bidders for county contracts to buy her vote with campaign money.
I believe Hugh when he says he will not do that.
I would be happy to see her unseated. I never thought she had the qualifications for that job.
Perhaps I am biased, but I think Hugh's mailings are very effective.

Senator Cornyn's Opponent in the Republican Primary

I was looking over the sample ballots for the Republican Primary in my precinct, and I came across the United States Senate Primary where a guy named Larry Kilgore is running against the incumbent, John Cornyn. I had never heard of this guy, so I did a search under ask.com to see if he had an election website. Indeed, he does, and it is a doozy!
This guy is advocating the Texas secede from the United States and form an independent country.
Oh, my god!
The link to his website is above.
If you don't like John Cornyn, please don't vote for this other guy. Senator Cornyn is the only choice in that race.
Wow!
Check out his website.

Criminal Trial in Jack County

Jack County Courthouse, Jacksboro, Texas

Have you all been wondering where I am? Paige and I have been prosecuting a case in a jury trial in Jack County, which is one of the counties where Paige and I work as Assistant District Attorneys.
The defendant was charged with Indecency with a Child, and the penalty was enhanced to a 1st degree felony.
We had a good case and a strong jury to hear it.
Today, the jury found the defendant guilty, and after a short punishment hearing where we presented the defendant's prior criminal history, the assessed a punishment of Life with a $10,000 fine.
I was very proud of the jurors, and I was happy that our case came across to them so well. Hopefully, it had a little bit to do with the good prosecutors. I believe that the truth was shown and that justice was done in this case.
I would like to yell a big "thank you" Paige's husband for taking the time to get us some documents from Tarrant County that we needed for the trial (Thanks, Danny).

Isn't That What a Writer Is?

When I started this blog, my wife said, "Isn't it a bit egotistic and narcissistic to believe that people would be interested in what you have to write in a blog?"

My response was, "Would that not apply to all writers who write for publication? Don't all writers believe that what they have to say is important enough for other people to read?"

Goal Reached

I am putting this up only because I am so proud of myself. This week, I reached a weight loss goal by losing 10% of my original weight when I joined "Weight Watchers." What I have lost is almost half of my overall goal for the program. I have lost almost 24 pounds to get from 233 to 209. I also want you all to know that the WW program works if you follow the program. I use the "Etools" at Weightwatchers.com, and it is very helpful.
If this keeps up, I am going to have to buy new clothes!

Hugh Coleman for County Commissioner, Precinct 1

I found a campaign flyer in my mail today from the Hugh Coleman for County Commissioner campaign. I support Hugh in this bid because I think he would be better for the county than Ms. White. With all that said, this has to be the best flyer I have received from any candidate campaigning for anything in this election.

Apparently, Hugh found Cynthia White's "blog.myspace.com" page. In her myspace page, Ms. White is posing as a 21 year old single female from Alabama named Shyler. She even had a photo of herself posted. Ms. White is a 44 year old woman, and I actually don't know if she is married or not.

But why would she be posing as a 21 year old single female? Is it to lure young men to their dooms? This whole thing is priceless. I pulled up the site shown on the flyer: blog.myspace.com/schylerspage, and it is now a private page and it can only be seen by invitation from the owner, namely, "Schyler" or Cynthia White.

What is worse, that she has this page with this false information on it, or that she took measure to hide it when it was exposed for the campaign?

I may hang on to this one forever. It's priceless!

Ernest Hemingway

Today, I picked up copies of three books by Ernest Hemingway at the Recycled Book Store on the square in Denton. I got The Old Man and the Sea, To Have and To Have Not, and A Farewell to Arms. I am ashamed to say that I have never read Hemingway. I have read alot of classic literature, to be sure, but nothing by him. I am somewhat familiar with his work through reading literary critiques and essays about him.
I was told, by a writing instructor that I took a class from a few years ago, that my writing style was like his. I took this a serious compliment.
I will read these books and see for myself.

"Scratch Beginnings: Me, $25, and the Search for the American Dream"

Last year, I read a book entitled "Nickeled and Dimed" by Barbara Ehrenreich. If you haven't read it, it is the story of her experimental attempt at living on minimum wage jobs. The different chapters or sections deal with the different jobs that she tried to live on, such as working for Merry Maids or Walmart. I found the book very depressing in the picture of hopelessness that it painted for uneducated people. I almost took the entire story as a piece of liberal propoganda to get decision makers to funnel more taxpayer dollars to the "poor".

This link is an article about a man named Adam Shepard who left home with the clothes on his back, a gym bag, and $25. His goal was to have an apartment, a car, and $2500 in the bank by the end of the first year. Although he was a college graduate, he hid this fact from prospective employers. The upshot is that, by the time he ended the experiment after only 10 months (he had to leave due to a serious illness in his family). When he went home, he had an apartment, a pickup truck, and $5000 dollars in the bank.

The title on the blog entry is the title of Shepard's book about his adventure. I will get a copy of the book. I find this message very uplifting. There are many people out there who may not do well in college, but they are highly motivated to care for themselves and not sponge off of the American taxpayers or charitable organizations. Of course, there are those who are happy to let someone else pick up the tab. There are also those who cannot, either through physical disability, mental disability, or old age, take care of themselves in this manner. Those people need help.

I want to thank my son for passing this information to me.

This is a Hill-Billy

This is so stupid that it's hillarious...or should I say "Hillaryous"?
Thanks to one of my readers for emailing this to me.

It's all in good fun.
